Giant Dublin #SuperCyclingSunday Ride Report

Super Cycling Sunday – Inaugural 100km Ride Report

After registration and a short safety briefing,  24 riders rolled out from Giant Store Dublin for the inaugural Super Cycling Sunday 100km Ride, proudly supported by Shimano UK , GIANT UK and GIANT Dublin.

The group set off at a steady, controlled pace, making their way through South Dublin before heading onto the spectacular roads of County Wicklow. The first regroup took place just outside Bray at the top of the steady Windgates climb, giving everyone the chance to catch their breath and enjoy the views before continuing.

From there, the route took the riders through the picturesque seaside town of Greystones, following the stunning coastline before continuing through Newcastle, Rathnew, and onward into Ashford, where a well-earned water and refreshment stop gave everyone the opportunity to refuel, rehydrate, and prepare for the biggest challenge of the day.

With bottles topped up energy restored thanks to Brian Monahan and his well stocked HILUX full of goodies and half our distance covered it was time to tackle the ride's signature climb—the famous Devil's Glen. The climb tested the legs, but the incredible scenery and sense of achievement at the summit made every pedal stroke worthwhile.

From Devil's Glen, the riders continued towards Roundwood, passing the breathtaking Vartry Reservoir, surrounded by the stunning views of the Wicklow Mountains. After a quick regroup in Roundwood, the group rolled across the undulating roads towards Enniskerry, enjoying the beautiful countryside and passing the entrance to the renowned Ballinastoe MTB Trailhead, one of Ireland's most popular mountain biking destinations. There was also a very clear view of Sugar Loaf mountain to our right as we picked up speed on the sharp decent of the Old Long Hill where we would see the highest speeds of the day recorded

As the ride drew to a close, a few members of the group opted for one final coffee stop in Enniskerry to reflect on a fantastic day in the saddle, while the majority pressed on for the final leg back towards the city before returning to where it all began at Giant Store Dublin.

On arriving back at the store, everyone gathered to swap stories from the day's adventure and celebrate a fantastic achievement together. Riders were presented with their complimentary goodie bags before enjoying some well-earned refreshments and a chance to relax after completing the 100km route. With tired legs, plenty of smiles, and lasting memories, everyone headed home after a truly memorable inaugural Super Cycling Sunday.

The day was about much more than simply riding 100 kilometres. It was about bringing cyclists together, enjoying the incredible roads of Wicklow, making new friendships, and sharing a passion for cycling in a welcoming and supportive environment. Judging by the smiles at the finish, the inaugural Super Cycling Sunday was a resounding success, and we are already looking forward to the next one.
