After spending some quality time riding the new CADEX Max 50 WheelSystem paired with the CADEX Cotton Race 30mm tubeless tyres, I can honestly say these are among the most impressive wheels I have ever ridden.

As someone who spends countless hours riding Irish roads of varying conditions, I'm always looking for equipment that genuinely improves the riding experience rather than simply saving a few grams on paper. The CADEX Max 50 delivers exactly that and more . . . . .

Speed You Can Feel

The first thing that stands out is the incredibly low rolling resistance thanks to the premium ceramic bearings.The bike seems to carry speed effortlessly, making it easier to maintain higher average speeds with less effort.

Whether accelerating away from junctions, pushing on rolling roads or cruising along the flat, these wheels simply encourage you to ride faster. Combined with the supple CADEX Cotton Race 30mm tyres, road buzz is significantly reduced while maintaining outstanding speed.

Outstanding Stability on Descents


One of the biggest surprises has been how composed the CADEX Max 50 feels on fast descents.

Despite being a 50mm deep carbon wheel, crosswind stability is exceptional. Even on exposed roads, the bike remains planted and predictable, allowing you to focus on your line rather than fighting the wind.

Whether you are decending a familiar road in Co Wicklow or one less travelled as was the case last weekend in the West Of Ireland that confidence inspires you to descend faster while remaining completely in control.

Incredible Cornering Confidence

The 30mm Cotton Race tyres completely transform cornering.

The combination of the wider tyre profile, cotton casing and the 22.4mm internal rim width creates superb grip and support through every corner. The bike feels planted, responsive and incredibly predictable, even on rough Irish roads.

It's one of those upgrades that immediately boosts rider confidence.

Comfort Meets Performance

Many riders assume wider tyres sacrifice speed.

My experience has been the complete opposite.

The Cotton Race tyres smooth rough road surfaces beautifully while maintaining outstanding rolling efficiency. Longer rides become noticeably less fatiguing, yet every pedal stroke still feels immediate and responsive.

Outright Speed and Comfort rarely come together this well , the latter being so important and key to an enjoyable ride whether racing, endurance riding or just taking part in your local 50/100 km sportive.
