Performance Analysis
Following his aggressive ride on Stage 4, today’s priority was likely to recover and avoid unnecessary effort. Sprint stages are often among the most stressful days in the Tour because of the fight for position, and finishing safely is an important objective.
With the high mountains beginning on Stage 6, Bahrain Victorious will be pleased to have Vlad arrive fresh and ready for terrain that better suits his strengths.
Performance Rating
7.5/10
A disciplined ride. While it wasn’t a headline-grabbing day, it was exactly the type of performance expected from a young Tour debutant looking after both himself and his teammates ahead of the Pyrenees.

Vlad Watch – Stage 5
After yesterday’s attacking display, today was all about patience. Vlad Van Mechelen rode safely through a hectic sprint stage into Pau, conserving energy ahead of the mountains. The only breakaway rider was Baptiste Veistroffer, who stayed clear for much of the day before being caught by the sprinters’ teams. With Stage 6 heading into the Pyrenees, we’ll be watching to see if Vlad gets another opportunity to show his attacking style.
